Class 4 Physician Disability Insurance
This is the highest occupational class a physician can have with Berkshire Life Insurance Company of America. It is reserved for those medical professionals with the most favorable claims experience. As a result, you have the longest own-occupation period that is offered, and the lowest rates Berkshire can offer any physician. To see a brief list of medical specialties that qualify for class 4 disability insurance benefits and rates please look at the list on the right side of this page.
Lifetime Own-Occupation Available Berkshire is one of the the last insurance companies to offer physicians pure own-occupation benefits with a graded lifetime benefit period. This is the longest length of own-occupation coverage a physician can possibly get from any insurance company.
The second most common disability claim scenario for a physician is a residual disability. A residual disability is a disability that does not prevent you from performing the material and substantial duties of your regular occupation, but does cause an income loss of 20% or more. Because residual is based on loss of income only, the residual disability rider acts as an unlimited "recovery" benefit during any claim. Subject only to the benefit period, Berkshire will continue to pay even after you return to work full time, until your income recovers along with your health. Many competitors would cease to pay benefits the moment you are back to work full time, even if your income has not recovered yet.
